THE INSPIRATION OF SCRIPTURES – 2 Timothy 3:16 NIV

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Note: 1) God-breathed  pneuma (wind, spirit)

          2) the object of inspiration is the written words  NOT the authors

2 Peter 1:21  NIV  “For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

Matthew 5:18 NIV  “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

John 17:17 NIV “Thy word is truth”

Hebrews 4:12 NIV  “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to diving soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

READ:  Mark 12:24-27  (present tense of the word ="I AM" … not the past tense "I WAS"

Galatians 3:16    (singular word “seed” – not plural word “seeds

          3) Not only is the written word “God-breathed” it is “Profitable” “useful”

Psalm 119:11  NIV “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you”

Acts 17:11  NIV “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

ONE QUESTION TO ASK ANY RELIGION – WHO OR WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE OF AUTHORITY ?

1)     Person (s)   Jesus is the living Word of God  (God in the flesh)

2)     Book (s)     The Bible is the written Word of God

3)     Note:  If the Bible is in a listing of books it can never be higher than #2

4)     If a religion has a prophet or leader other than Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ can never be higher than #2.
