Quilting Ministry

Peg Rhine from Snydertown Luthern Church introduced us to this quilting ministry in 2000, and since that time, our members have made and donated close to 100 quilts every year. The quilts are taken to Lutheran World Relief Warehouse in New Windsor, MD, where they are distributed to countries where they are needed.

The quilts bring warmth on a cold night, provide shelter from the sun on a hot day. They become a bed, a room divider, a back pack to carry belongings, and at times even a home.

Lutheran World Relief is still in need of quilts to meet rising demands around the world. Due to the increased intensity of humanitarian crisis around the world, they continue to receive thousands of requests for quilts. In 2007, 452,870 quilts were sent to people living in 23 different countries.

There are many people involved in getting these quilts made and delivered to the distribution center. Donating material, flat sheets new or used, cutting patches, sewing, knitting, packing, and transporting are some ways of helping.
